Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Who was the best penalty taker?

Too young to have ever personally seen Ray Stewart so gotta pick Julian.

Stewart always featured heavily on those videos from the 90s like Right Hammerings etc

No.... stop it. I wont believe that.

I would have loved to see them both at the peak of their powers and coincide in the same team together at that very moment.

If only, it would have been carnage on the flanks

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Ray Stewart is a slightly tragic figure in our history. We were one shit ref and a Paul Walsh dive away from winning the League.

Paul Walsh conned the ref into believing Ray had fouled him, Liverpool got a penalty and Ray got sent off for disputing this outrageous decision.

We were on top before this happened. Had we won that game and all the other results had stayed the same, the title would have been ours.

Bloody Liverpool have cheated us out of one of each of the domestic trophies.

Dicks was a great talent, but too much of a liability.
I'd pick Ray Stewart over him for any reason. For me he put in the best defensive display I've ever seen, and he was out of position at centre back on one our great nights - FA cup replay at Elland road v's Everton 1980. That night he was fucking immense.

Tonka all day long

And before anyone else says it: OK, two good players and Lee Chapman.

I think that's unfair. Dicks was our only sellable asset when the team was in dire need of refreshing and spiralling downwards. The only player worth a sufficient amount to be able to get three good players in. He was deliberately sold to save the club's Prem status, he didn't fuck off. However I will give you that he was by all accounts, something of a toxic personality at the club around that time and many were pleased to see him go.

As it was, Liverpool fans saw him as the personification of Souness's unpopular direct and aggressive strategy and were happy enough to see him return to us.

Grantley had it worse. Much worse.

Probably murdered someone at his under seven football trials.

Mrs Dicks named her sons Julian and Grantley. I imagine they had to turn a bit feral to keep the bullying at bay.

There was only one of them fucked off to a bigger club at the first opportunity. Ray Stewart every time

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
There was one game against Posh where their keeper (Bennett) saved a penalty that was hit so hard it must've gone 20 yards straight up in the air. It's on youtube here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze3XZ0XsAw8

The sound is woefully out of sync and the final
score was 2-1 (not 3-1 as listed incorrectly).

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Dicks was more talented but how many games did he miss due to suspension? Loads i suggest. Highly talented but not a great professional i think its fair say. Stewart was a great full back and reliable, tough as teak too. Thats said Dicksie just for me

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
I think they were as good as one another as pen takers, but I suppose if you had to pick one it would have to be Tonka. As for players, Julian was at a different level to Tonka.

Btw, Julian just become a Dad again.

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Ray Stewart was a tremendous full back. He didn't get as many caps for Scotland as he should have though. He loved playing for West Ham and it showed in his attitude throughout his career at Upton Park.

Dicksie cos he's a Bristol boy. A mate of mine knew his mum said she was a lovely lady not the sort of person you'd imagine would produce the TERMINTOR

How is love to have a player.like him again

If my life depended on it I would pick Ray Stewart. If Noble were taking my life-saving penalty I would probably have a heart attack watching.
